My Story

I've created this page because I want to make a difference. I'm inspired by the work of Walk the Walk and wanted to support them by raising money as part of my participation in The MoonWalk Iceland 2018. Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about Walk the Walk, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!

We've created this page because we want to make a difference. We're inspired by the work of Walk the Walk and wanted to support them by raising money as part of our participation in The MoonWalk Iceland 2018. Please help us help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button.

We are four ladies of varying decades of age, and we all have our very special reasons as to why we are taking part in this challenge. We have a 40 (Sarah!), two 50s (Caroline and Carol, old school chums!) and Anita; Anita is walking to commemorate the past 30 years since her Mum passed away after losing her battle with breast cancer. So without further ado, let us introduce ourselves..... drumroll please......

Sarah - I'm challenging myself because of many friends and colleagues who I've met in my 40 years who have fought.... won, and lost their battles with cancer. A marathon is on my 'bucket list' so how better to join the two together and to raise seriously needed money for research to cure this hideous disease.

Caroline - So, this year, I'll be reaching the tender age of 50! I have been directly affected by breast cancer, my mum was diagnosed 10 years ago and, thankfully successfully treated. I too have had investigations and I believe that without having previous fundraising by like minded people, and looking to my future, this could've turned out very differently for me. A marathon is also very much on my 'bucket list'....but there's not a cat in hells chance I'll ever be able to run one!!! Having been to Iceland with Carol a few years ago when we fell in love with the place, when we found out that Walk The Walk was in Iceland it was a no brainier. So please dig deep and sponsor sponsor sponsor!!!

Carol... I too will be passing the threshold of the magnificent FIVE ZERO! And how fortunate am I, there are thousands of women who have never been blessed with this achievement. There are many people I know who have been affected by this hideous disease and I will be walking my little (and afterwards quite smelly!) socks off in order to raise as many pennies as I can to increase future generations chances of survival.

Anita ……and I am the ‘senior’ of the group. In June 2018 I shall be 56, the same age that my darling mum was when she lost her fight with this terrible disease. She was too young to die, I was too young to lose my mum. I started walking with ‘Walk the Walk’ in 2003 and I vowed early on that I would walk the 2018 Iceland Moonwalk in tribute to my mum. This will be my 10th walk with the organization and my second midnight marathon - I am under no illusions: this is going to be one tough gig. With your sponsorship, and the support of new friends, I will complete the challenge, even if I have to crawl on my hands and knees. For those dear girls, and guys, battling breast cancer: every day is tough; they have no choice. The least I can do is put in a little effort over the Summer Solstice.
